As we step into the new year, many of us contemplate resolutions to enhance our well-being. According to a recent survey, common goals include exercising more, losing weight, and adopting healthier habits.
Reflecting on my journey, 2023 was transformative for me, I:
- Established Restored Eden Physiotherapy
- Navigated a divorce
- Concluded stressful court proceedings
- Achieved a healthier work-life balance for my children
- Experienced personal breakthroughs and positive changes
Navigating Life's Challenges
Beyond the professional milestones, my personal life posed significant challenges. After separating from my husband in 2020, financial struggles and long work hours became the norm. Sleep deprivation took a toll, impacting my relationship with my children. Over three years, I regularly survived on 4-5 hours of sleep per night.
Despite the hardships, I learned to lean on God, find strength in relationships, and focus on personal growth. Through faith and perseverance, I not only overcame trauma but also gained control over my time and finances.
For 2024, I resolve to care for others, see the whole individual, and deepen my spiritual connection. I've started the year proactively, engaging in prayer and fasting to seek guidance and surrender to God’s direction.
Psalm 127:1-2 reminds us, "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it..."
The Radiance Within:
As you consider your own New Year’s resolutions it's worth considering that neglecting exercise and a poor diet impacts more than just appearance. Skin loses its glow, joints stiffen, and mental health suffers. Even people seemingly immune to weight gain may age faster without regular exercise.
Our bodies were designed for movement. In times past, daily life demanded physical activity—farming, walking long distances for water, tending to children, cooking from scratch, and engaging in hunting or other active pursuits. While the conveniences of modern life seem appealing, they have inadvertently led to the rise of the unhealthiest generation in history, as we were inherently designed for exercise.
Balancing Life's Scales
However, much as I believe regular exercise is key to well-being, I also understand a holistic approach is vital. I've realized that well-being isn't just about weight loss or exercise; it's about achieving balance. I faced financial struggles, long work hours, and sleep deprivation. Through faith, learning to lean on others, and perseverance, I found solutions and made positive changes.
As we tackle our own New Year’s resolutions, it's crucial to recognize that life's complexities can impede our progress. At Restored Eden Physiotherapy, we care about each individual and understand that life gets in the way and prevents us from achieving our fitness and health goals. However, our holistic approach considers individual barriers, providing tailored solutions for a healthier lifestyle and we've witnessed profound life transformations in our clients.
